5 AI copywriting tools for better, faster content
There’s been a lot of talk in writer’s circles about how ChatGPT is going to replace them. I don’t believe that is likely to be the case, at least not yet.
What I do see happening is that writers who don’t know how to leverage AI tools will be replaced by professionals who do. And while it seems like everyone is talking ChatGPT and it is a good general use tool, there is way better stuff out there for writers who are interested in this technology.
Writers, gather round. We’re talking AI copywriting tools today.
AI-powered generative text
The biggest category of AI tools is text-to-text, which is what ChatGPT is. That means it is generating text based on the text prompts you enter.
The problem is, ChatGPT is a language model that is only as good as the input it’s given. Its knowledge base is vast, but copywriting skills are pretty basic. And while you can train the model, its capacity for creative writing is only the first challenge for people evaluating the quality of generated content.
Writers and enthusiasts alike have been quick to point out flaws and limitations in its output, including the absence of sources, recency of information given that its input cutoff was 2021, its occasional confusion or hallucination of fact.
Just this morning, I asked ChatGPT a question about a company we’d previously discussed. The bot’s response was that it wasn’t aware of the company. I reminded the bot that we’d already discussed the company, and it corrected itself. For people who can not distinguish the accuracy of its responses, this is problematic and worrisome.
Then of course there are two main problem areas when it comes to using the writing: One, that AI-generated articles can be detected by detection tools. And two, that Google recently disclosed that it will penalize sites using AI generated content in its ranking.
Luckily, there are dozens of alternative tools for writers to use (35 that I’m aware of, and I’m sure there’s more). So let’s get into it.
Five awesome AI copywriting tools
First, I want to express that I don’t recommend using AI tools to replace creative writing. But I’m all for using it to draft the unimaginative copy snippets that only siphon away your creative juices and using tools for research and inspiration.
I’m with the guys over at the AI Marketing Institute who recently said, “Good to great writers will find ways to use AI to enhance the process — outlines, ideation, inspiration — average writers will use it to write the drafts.” Don’t be an average writer.
With that disclaimer, here are five alternatives to using ChatGPT to assist your ideation, research, writing and editing work for writing projects large and small. Because even great writers can sometimes use a little assist.

Bonus tip
If you don’t have the time or energy to experiment with new tools, you can still use ChatGPT to make you a better writer by asking it for feedback. Just feed it some of your existing writing and write a prompt requesting a critique. ChatGPT used supervised learning to train language models to write critiques of short stories, Wikipedia articles, and other texts from the internet. Try it on your next article and let us know what you think about the result.
